Hi Eric
That's the trouble with an otm gag. When the girl struggles they do tend to slip down, though there's ususally a cleave gag underneath. As you say, I'm going to have to gag them tighter. I'll keep on trying till I get it right!!!

I totally agree with eric,it does look as if many otm gags on your photos could easily slip down with a quick shake of the head.
If I may add, instead of folding the scarf triangularly then over into a broad band, try folding it broadband in the opposite way,as the texture of the silk or satin will blend more tighter and not slip, this is proven by experience.

Hi Phil
True that an otm gag will sometimes stay in place better if folded straight rather than triangular, and I do this in some sets. However, I think that aesthetically a gag folded into a a triangle and then into a band looks better, particularlly from behind. A lot depends on the texture of the scarf, how much the model moves about, and whether there is a cleave gag underneath or not. Having said all that, trial and error is a lot of fun!!!

Bhowani-
it doesn't matter how you fold it, it's how you tie it :) Have you ever tried a surgeons knot? A surgeons knot is very simple and works well with scarves. All you do is take on end of the scarf and go around (hitch) the other end twice instead of once (once is a simple knot and usually requires two to hold) If I find a url with pics I'll update it.
Try it, the scarf cinches itself and with a good tug, becomes really tight :)

try here for pictures-

like I said, just make a regular knot and add an extra wrap around before you pull it tight, cinches right up nice :)

Personally, I like your OTM gags just the way they are. Sure, they may not be the most secure or effective gags, but to me, the aesthetics of the gag are just as important as the functionality, if not more so, and the OTM gags on your models look very good.

Thanks Snowman, and thanks for the knot suggestions, Cit - must try that. I've done it with rope, but never with a scarf.
Another thing that affects whether a gag stays on is the shape of a models face. Some girls could wear an otm gag all day without it moving a millimetre. On others it will slip however you tie it. I've discussed this theory with other photographers and they agree. The important thing is that it looks good.
Another way of making sure a gag doesn't slip is to pull it very tight indeed, but since I have an over-riding principle of never ever doing anything to hurt a model, that's not an option (apart from the occasional model who asks for it like that)

I feel that OTM's look fine even if they are loose. Personally, I mostly like gags their visual effect. They just look good.

I like the OTM gags, but they do come loose with some effort. A cleave gag is good underneath. So are several strips of duct tape.
